Ash to Aggregate

IDA-Power offers beneficial reuse solutions for coal combustion residuals (CCR).  Through our agreement with Pittsburgh Mineral & Environmental Technology, Inc., we are pursuing opportunities to clean close coal ash landfills, impoundments, and other CCR units utilizing their patented Brixx Technology.

The Brixx process is a patented technology that produces eco-friendly construction materials from fly ash. The Brixx remediation process is a renewable alternative to mining traditional aggregate and can be used to meet the requirements of sustainable building materials such as road base, clean fill, and aggregate for poured in place concrete.

In the Brixx manufacturing process, a coal power plants coal combustion residual (CCR) is encapsulated in a calcium-oxide or calcium-hydroxide crystal to render it inert and non-leachable. It is then mixed with water, blended, compacted into a desired shape, and thermodynamically cured in an autoclave to produce strong, non-toxic, aggregate.
